Yang Wang, Zhengist

Yang Wang started learning Guzheng at the age of nine with musicians of the Inner Mongolia Broadcast Orchestra in China. She has since performed for the Zhaojun Art Festival, Grassland Culture and Art Festival, etc., in Huhehot, Inner Mongolia, where she grew up. At the age of 18, Wang was certified as top-class player by the China Central Conservatory of Music. Wang studied the intricate relationship between ancient Chinese music and poems during her undergraduate study in the Department of Chinese Literature at Peking University, one of the top-notch universities in China. While in Houston, Wang hosted numerous events introducing Chinese music to the western audience with her rich Guzheng knowledge and skills. Her recent ensemble and solo appearances include the 2012 Chinese New Year Concert and Buddhist Music Concert in Houston.

Working as a reporter for the Houston Chronicle, Wang actively engages herself in local communities. She has covered substandard housing, poverty, public safety and many social issues for the Chronicle. Wang holds a master's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Missouri. She also enjoys dancing Salsa and has performed for various charity causes.
